Hitz' Annual Apple Butter tradition is believed to have been started in the late 1950s by the Hitz Auxillary. With the support of the UCC Southern Conference Women's Guild, the tradition started as a way for all residents to participate in helping to fundraise for the facility as well as participate in an enjoyable activity. To this day the tradition continues with residents, friends, staff and families participating in every step of the process from the peeling of the apples to the canning of the apple butter. Apple Butter can be purchased from the Hitz Activity Dept. $7 for a quart and $5 for a pint.
